Lesbian Dad

It’s Lezzy VOTING time!

parenting-wedding-blogWe interrupt the delivery of actual content here to draw your attention to The Lezzys, by which I don’t mean the legions upon legions of us sisters of Sappho.  You are paying attention to one right this very minute, and you are at liberty to search out more of us wherever you like, whether on the world wide internets, the Lezzy-friendly cable network(s), or behind the wheel of that big brown UPS truck snaking its way through streets in your town, rain or shine.

No, The Lezzys I speak of here are the awards given to lesbo-authored blogs who have managed to cajole their friends, family, and readers into voting, daily, from today ’til next Wednesday (ending 6pm Pacific Daylight Time).  Now in its third year, The Lesbian Lifestyle-sponsored awards are now broken into a bunch of neat topical categories, and thanks to your kindly nominating, Lesbian Dad is among the finalists for Best Parenting/Wedding Blog!  This would give me unfettered joy, except my joy is fettered by the fact that a dear old chum’s blog, Up Popped a Fox, is also a finalist.  What are the chances?! Rounding out the Best Parenting/Wedding Blog line-up is Irreverent Mother.  I’m a big fan of irreverence wherever it crops up, so I have to be supportive of her, too.

What’s a gal to do? Rejoice in the fact that at least her old chum is also a finalist for Best Overall Lesbian Blog, that’s what!  I can now, in good faith, urge that you utterly pass her by for Best Parenting Blog and give her some love for Best Overall Lesbian Blog of the Year!

The other two contenders for Blog of the Year are fabulous blogs: Dorothy Surrenders, which snagged the 2007 (de facto overall) Lezzy for her witty (in both senses of the word) and lesbianic take on pop culture, and Grace the Spot, which just went through a bruising battle in the Weblog Awards this year, up for Best New Blog. I have a special sympathetic place in my heart for bruising Best New Blog battles, though this one wasn’t right vs. lesbian, but left vs. lesbian.  Go figure.  But they’re also finalists in other categories: both for Humor, and both for Culture/Entertainment.  So you see.  Ample opportunities to offer them support and recognition.  Ample.

I will refrain from making recommendations about the other blogs, though a number of them are ones I read regularly and consistently learn from (Pam, Sinclair), and others are ones I’ve perused either less regularly or more recently, and am really really impressed by (Shark-Fu, Carrot).  But I am (a) trusting in your own powers of discernment, and (b) utterly unconvinced in my capacity as tastemaker for anyone anyhow, given the dismal results I’m getting with my kids in the realm of vegetable consumption.

However, I did need to clear my conscience regarding my ole chum Vikki (Ms. Up Popped a Fox), who, it must be said, before she began to be a witty blogging parent, clambered up billboards and “revised” them, let us say, in the name of radicalesbian visibility.  We all owe her for that. I think the statute of limitations has run out on that as a punishable crime by now (? if not: OOPS), so I feel totally fine bragging in this way about her.  We did plenty of other things in the good ole, bad ole days, but this seemed on the brag-worthy end of the spectrum. But you can read her blog, if you don’t regularly, to appreciate the rest of her spectrum.  NO pun intended.  Ask Luisa about her spectrum.  (“Stop stop!” they cry!)

For my own part, I will take the occasion of this finalist dealie [VOTE LD HEREDAILY, SISTERS!], and combine it with the ongoing What About Love blog carnival Robin has going over at The Other Mother , and consider my pants duly kicked.  Kicked pants, in the LD realm, will mean: daily posts through the run of the voting, through next Wed, Feb 18 (Sunday excepted; I’m no Christian but neither am I a masochist).  Which means: next post’ll be the New part of Robin’s Old/New/Borrowed/Blue series.  Filed at what I’m sure will be the eleventh hour.

And now, finally, for your general edification, and since I didn’t see a final list on TLL, here are the finalist nominees in all the categories:

Culture/Entertainment:

Humor:

Parenting/Wedding:

Feminism/Political:

Personal:

50 and Over:

Gender Bender:

Sex/Short Story/Erotica:

Blog of the Year:

  • Dorothy Surrenders (see above)
  • Grace the Spot (see above)
  • Up Popped a Fox (see above)

I can’t promise I’ll publish photos of my arse if I win (as Sinclair Sexmith did, the little dickens– her arse, I hasten to note).  But I might just threaten to do so if I don’t!
